1.1.13.2. Forward SRS airbags
SRS airbags (additional system of deduction) are designed for providing to the driver and ahead the sitting passenger of additional protection in addition to the main protection provided with seat belts. |
The pneumopillow of the passenger is put in action, even if on a front seat there is no passenger. Make sure that the seat belt was fastened properly.
Prevention
– The driver has to sit as it is possible further from a steering wheel as far as it is possible for normal driving.
– Ahead the sitting passenger has to be as it is possible further from an instrument guard.
– All passengers have to be properly fastened by seat belts.
This indicator is highlighted if the ignition key is turned in the provision of "ACC" or "ON". It dies away approximately in 6 seconds. It means that pneumopillows of system of additional deduction work normally. |
This system of the warning light signals controls sensors of the forward SRS airbag, the device of sensors of the airbag, delivery devices, the warning light signal, system of connecting wires and power supplies.
The SRS airbag is designed for actuating in response to strong forward blow within the shaded site between shooters in the drawing. |
There are cases when the SRS airbag does not work on such blow, however the passenger with the seat belt fastened properly will not suffer a serious injury.
The SRS airbag will be deployed if the size of influence exceeds settlement limit, comparable approximately with direct collision with a motionless barrier which is not displaced and is not deformed at a speed of car of 25 km/h.
If the size of influence is lower than the specified threshold level, the SRS airbag can not be deployed.
However threshold value of speed will be much higher if the car collides such object as the parked car or a road sign which can move or be deformed, or at the lower collision (for example when the front of the car "got" under a truck body).
At collision on the verge of admissible level for sensitivity of sensors of system of pneumopillows can be that only one of them will be developed.
The SRS airbag is designed so that it will not be inflated if the car is subject to side-winder or behind if it turns over or will be involved in forward collision at a low speed.
SRS airbags can be deployed in case of serious shock impact on the lower party of the car. Some examples are shown in the drawing.

The device of sensors of pneumopillows consists of sensors of admissible influence and sensors of operation of pneumopillows.
In response to strong forward blow sensors define delay of speed of the movement and put delivery pumps of pneumopillows in action. Then chemical reaction in delivery pumps leads to instant filling of pneumopillows with nontoxical nitric gas to keep passengers from advance.
When filling pneumopillows quite loud noise will be heard and smoke with nontoxical gas will be emitted. This gas does not mean ignition. It is harmless, but at that who have a gentle skin, it can cause her insignificant irritation. Do not forget to wash away the remains for prevention even of small irritation of skin.
Expansion of pneumopillows happens in fractions of a second as the airbag is inflated with significant force. While the system aims at reduction of serious damages, it can cause small burns, grazes.
Parts of the block of a pneumopillow (the plug of a steering wheel, instrument guard) can be several minutes hot, however the pneumopillow will not be hotter. Pneumopillows are calculated on single filling.
At rather strong collision at which pneumopillows will be filled the windshield and coupling brackets of the car can break. In cars with a pneumopillow for the passenger the windshield can be also damaged.
The system of a pneumopillow has the service warning indicator for informing the driver on functional problems. |
The light indicator is not highlighted when the ignition key turns in the provision of "ACC" or "ON" or remains included.
The light indicator is highlighted during driving.
Prevention
– SRS airbags were deployed;
– the car front (shaded in the drawing) was involved in accident, but not to such an extent that pneumopillows of additional system of deduction were inflated;
– the section of a pillow of a steering wheel or a cover of a pneumopillow ahead of the sitting passenger (shaded in the drawing) are scratched, burst or are damaged.
