12.1.26. Safety cushions
On all cars 2 pillows, one of which (from the driver) is mounted in the central part of a wheel, and another – on the right side of the dashboard are provided. Also is a part of the system the block of sensors and management mounted on the center of the car before floor section.
The safety module from the driver
The packed pillow and the device of forcing (reactor) which is under a pillow is a part of the module and it is connected to it an opening through which gas at receipt of a signal is supplied. The signal is given on the cable winded in a flexible spiral around a wheel shaft irrespective of a wheel angle of rotation. The pillow is inflated with the nitrogen which is formed as a result of reaction of an oxide of copper and azid of sodium.
The safety module from the passenger
The device of forcing (reactor), the put pillow, the reactor and the facing panel enter into structure of the module located over a glove box. Passenger's pillow much more than driver's pillow. Exterior finish of a cover of a pillow coincides with finishing of the forward panel. The seam which breaks when forcing gas in a pillow is provided in a cover.
Side pillows are established on cars of 1998-99, they are in seatbacks from the outer edge. The sensor is mounted in a body, in the lower part of a rack of a door.
Block of sensors and diagnostics
The block provides food and operation of a safety cushion even at the switched-off battery. The block checks a condition of a security system. The control lamp of system (AIR-BAG lamp) at first lights up and at serviceable system dies away. If the system is faulty, then the lamp continues to burn or blink (or the sound signal is distributed). In this case the car should be handed over immediately in car service for check.
Prevention
When performing any works near a steering column or any unit of system it is necessary to disconnect safety cushions. For this purpose execute the following:
– expose wheels in the provision of driving on a straight line and transfer the ignition key to position of LOCK;
– disconnect the battery from weight;
– start works not less than 2 minutes later, i.e. through time necessary for the category of the condenser.
At manipulations with a pillow container always you take the revetted side of a container in the direction from yourself. It is forbidden to put a container the revetted party down. It is forbidden to measure resistance of any unit of system of pneumosafety as operation of a pillow from the ohmmeter battery is possible.
Before performance of welding works disconnect the socket of a safety cushion of yellow color which is located under a steering column about the socket of a combination of switches (from the driver) or a box for trifles (from the passenger).
It is forbidden to throw out a container with a pillow.
